📌 Notes & Tips

  • The best months for fireflies are usually December to January (peak glow), but tours run year-round.
  • Avoid using insect repellent immediately before the firefly watching cruise, as it may affect the natural environment around the mangroves.
  • If you bring a small red light, use it carefully and follow your guide's instructions so the fireflies are not disturbed.
  • To get the fireflies to twinkle brightly, prepare a red light/lamp. Fireflies only react to red lights. It's like pheromones calling to them to mate. Red light is like a mate calling to them from a distance. A small trivia- you will recognize a firefly's gender from the brightness of its light. The more brighter bugs are the male ones.
  • On some nights, you may also see bioluminescent plankton in the water. When conditions are right, moving your hand through the water can create a trail of tiny glowing lights.
  • Tour duration is about 4–4.5 hours depending on traffic and river conditions.
